The Elves—wait no, the Dwarves

Hello all!

Wow, it’s been a long time since I last posted, but to be fair, I started this just when the school year was starting and I kind of forgot about it. However, I hope you enjoy this second article!

The Elves were called the Eldar by the Valar, and they are the Firstborn Children of Illuvatar. Elves are indeed interesting beings. They are immortal so long as the world lasts. However, they can still be slain by war or sickness.

But wait! There’s a different race of people in Middle Earth?

That’s right. The dwarves actually came first. The dwarves were creations of one of the strongest of the Valar, Aule, because he was weary of waiting for the elves to appear and he wished for people who he could teach his arts and knowledge to.

However, even as he began to teach them, Eru knew what he had done and came down to explain the one (rather major) cinch in Aule’s plan—the Dwarves were not really sentient beings, but rather were chained to Aule’s will.

In his despair and shame, Aule would have actually destroyed the Dwarves. Which means no Gimli, Gloin, Thorin, Thrain, Thror, Durin, Moria, the Lonely Mountain and actually probably no elves in Middle Earth, or a lot fewer elves. But thankfully, Eru had pity and gave the Dwarves sentient thought and a place in His world, and although they were put into a deep sleep until after the elves came into being, it is nevertheless a fact that the Dwarves were the first sentient beings to be made.

So great job to the Dwarves!

The Elves come next. 😊
